Hey pro organizers. My name is Melissa Klug, and you are listening to the Pro Organizer Studio Podcast. Professional organizing changed my entire life. After 20 years of working at huge companies, I started working for myself. I opened a professional organizing business, grew it to six figures, and I never looked back.
Now I get to spend all day, every day teaching organizers around the world how to find clients, how to market and sell yourselves, how to turn this business into what you want it to be. Whether you have been in business for 15 minutes or 15 years, you have a home at Pro Organizer Studio. I'm excited that you're here. Let's get started.
Melissa: All right, so we are not going to be on video today because neither of us were video ready, but we are audio ready, and I'm here with my friend and frequent collaborator, Cabri Caldwell.
Cabri and I have a little, we have a little announcement. Little announcement, little news. I should probably sprinkle in like a, I don't usually do a lot of audio, I should do like, da da da da, like some sort of fanfare music or something.
Drumroll, something. Something, I don't know.
Cabri and I have been working on a little something, and do you want to tell people what it is, or do you want me to tell people? I think I want you to tell people.
Cabri: I feel like you deserve a spotlight in this because basically what happened is I called Melissa and I was like help, please. Now, please, pretty please.
Melissa: I did a podcast, it was probably a couple months ago by now, but it was about these two organizers that had been middle school friends and then they started an organizing company together. And we were just talking about like what makes a good partnership.
And, you know, if you go into a partnership with a business, like who should it be with? And one of the things that is really important, I think, in a partnership is that you have one person that may be good at one thing and one person that's good at another, and you just kind of augment each other.
Right? So the things that Cabri maybe isn't good at, I might be okay at and vice versa. And that is a lovely combination. We are doing a really good job of collaborating and making those partnerships work.
Cabri: Correct. You may absolutely hate my like midnight text messages of like, Oh, ran into a problem, stuck, help, need help now. SOS!
Melissa: But it’s fine. We're making it work. No, but okay. We're going to just take a brief detour. No, it doesn't bother me at all, first of all, but it might bother someone, and so that's a thing that you need to figure out if you are going to be in a partnership, like, cause I send you midnight text messages or sometimes 3am text messages.
And if that bugs you, these are the things you just have to know about each other, but we have similar working styles which is slightly chaotic.
Cabri: It's a little workaholic. It's a little chaos. It's a little bit of messy brain dumps just you know, middle of the night or late at night, right? But we, it works.
Melissa: Exactly. It might not work for everyone, but it works for us.
So we entered into a little partnership because we both have a passion for making sure that organizers are finding as many clients as they can. I say this all the time, and I'm going to keep saying it. Every call we have, every time I get an email from someone, every time someone joins Inspired Organizer, it is because The same sentence is said.
“I don't have enough clients. How do I get more clients? I need more clients. How do I find them?” And there are a million answers to those questions. There are a million ways to find clients. And we will teach you all of them. But the, my personal favorite way is: the internet.
And if you listen to my podcast about my phrase of the year, my passion this year is making sure that organizers are using their digital foundations.
And I think even a lot of experienced organizers still are not taking full advantage of their digital foundations. So Cabri and I have started a little venture that is going to help you with those foundations.
And we have bought a business called OrganizerNearMe.com. That's the drum roll.
Cabri: There's your fanfare in the background.
Melissa: Insert drum roll.
So Organizer Near Me is a platform where you can get a listing, you can get either a free listing or a paid listing, that helps augment your SEO without you having to do any work. Now, do I also want you to do your own SEO work? I sure do. But do I want to be able to help you with that?
And does Cabri want to help you with that? We do. We purchased this business together and we are ready to relaunch it as of today, when this podcast is going up right now, right now. Is there anything I missed about our story?
Cabri: Honestly, no, I do feel like mentioning that I was very gung Ho in this whole thing. And that, that literally was what happened. I quickly realized I was like, Oh my gosh, I need help. There's things that I don't know how to do, or I don't know what I'm supposed to do. And so it was, Sending up SOS flares to Melissa, I'm like, please help me.
And that was actually really beneficial. And I also feel like mentioning that because if we're being honest, me seven years ago, as a baby business owner, if you had said, Hey, you should really focus on SEO, same exact thing would have happened. I would have sent out. Little SOS flares to somebody saying, what the heck is SEO?
What am I supposed to do? What does it help? How much priority should I put onto it? How much time should I spend on it? All those questions that, I mean, even experienced organizers have, it's just one of those topics that's so hard to grasp and handle It's, it's nice to have some help. It's nice to have something that can literally deliver clients to you on a silver platter, where you just get to call them and be like, here you go.
Here's your contract. Here's your invoice. Pay me my money. Let's get started.
Melissa: And we really want as much as possible to be able to demystify SEO for people. So that's one of my goals this year, but it's not just demystifying it. It's also actually helping you build some of that Internet credibility on your own.
And we are super passionate about organizers getting their names out to people to because I very much believe a rising tide raises all boats. And so when we have organizers that are out spreading the word about what organizing is and what do we do and what can we provide for people. It makes more people realize the services that we have out there.
So it's really just a combination of, we want to help you with your SEO. We want to help you with your findability and we want to help more consumers actually find organizers and know what they do.
Cabri: One thousand percent.
Melissa: We wanted to relaunch it because we want people to be able to get into the queue to be able to benefit from some of the work that we have done behind the scenes already. This is a [00:07:00] relaunch so Organizer Near Me has been around for a couple of years.
But Cabri got the opportunity to purchase it and we just knew we had to jump on it because it was something that we wanted to be able to really take to the next level. We are doing a ton of work on SEO so that you don't have to. So that you can go concentrate on the other things that you need to do for your digital foundations, like fixing your website or blogging consistently, any of the things that we are going to tell you to do this year, you go spend time on that. And then we'll help build some SEO for you on the outside.
Cabri: I feel like it's super important to mention.
Again, this goes back to like, what is SEO? How much time should I commit to it? There's a bigger concept at play when it comes to SEO, because SEO is your compound interest in your business, the more time and energy and effort you put into SEO, the more it's going to build and it lasts forever when it's out on the [00:08:00] internet, I mean, we've had organizers who will post a blog that is properly properly SEO set up and customized for that reason alone. And they'll post the blog and it will still be driving traffic and bringing leads to them three years later, years later. Yeah. So it's one of those things, demystifying, making sure that you're focusing on your SEO, giving the tips and tricks that we know to help build that credibility when it comes to SEO, but also helping you flex that muscle so that you're constantly building, but as you're constantly building the work that you've already put into it is also building and bringing you new clients as well.
Melissa: I will tell a story about this. I actually gave a presentation on SEO yesterday to a bunch of organizers. And I, I told this story, but so I have been an organizer since 2018 and I did a ton of work on SEO. I really made it my job to learn a lot about SEO because I knew how important it was.
And by the way, I knew nothing about it [00:09:00] before I started. I am self taught on everything, but I have, I created some major wins pretty quickly. And one of the things, so because Pro Organizer Studio is my full time job and Home by 11 is my side hustle I'm not actively looking for organizing clients.
If people happen to find me and they want to reach out to me, I will chat with them, but I am not really going out and being like, I really need some organizing clients. Where can I find them? So I have not done a ton of SEO work on my home by 11 website in a really long time. I got a new you know, I kind of redid my website a couple of years ago, but I haven't been blogging regularly.
I haven't been updating my Google business regularly. And when I tell you, I still get consult request after consult request every single week, I have two that came in this morning and it's just because of the work that I did. You know, up to seven years ago, [00:10:00] that is still paying dividends. So I love what you said about it is something that you spend one hour on it now, and you might get a return from it five years from now and not even remember what you did.
Cabri: Yes.
Melissa: 1,
Cabri: 000%. And
Melissa: it's
Cabri: so funny. I'm glad you told that story because I feel like I'm the opposite. I spent so much time focused on social media and networking or influencer club, like just a totally, like I kind of did the whole opposite side of the coin and it had its perks and it had its I guess it's benefits that you could consider.
But when it comes to the influencers that we worked with three years ago, like, are we still getting leads from them? Absolutely not. Those Instagram stories expired in 24 hours. The posts are buried under all the other things. Like, it's just not happening. Same thing with social media. If Instagram and Facebook crash tomorrow, like, we'd be in a tough spot.
We put a lot of emphasis on that. And so it's one of those things like diversifying your income when it comes to finding leads, finding clients. This is another avenue that you want to spend some time [00:11:00] on. You want to focus on. And I'm really grateful that I'm pretty sure that I did not start focusing on SEO till I joined Inspired Organizer.
And didn't even really like push it till probably late in 2023. And I'm seeing the benefits of it now, but in my head, I'm like, dang, wish I would've done it sooner. Like all the things.
Melissa: We just have to keep using this financial metaphor because you know, when they when they say, like, if you put 100 in an investment fund in 20 years, you will have whatever 10, 000 what, you know, obviously it depends on a lot of factors.
That is very much the same for SEO. Because when you think about what if I would have done this, When I was a baby entrepreneur, you know, what if I would have like really put all these things in place right off the bat, but it is also the kind of thing that it's never too late to start. So let's say you haven't concentrated on SEO at all.
We're going to start that savings account now. Now is better than not starting it at all. And so there are lots of things you can do and we're going to be talking about them throughout the year, but we want to just [00:12:00] create a tool that helps you, especially if you're behind on your SEO, get out there, get some of the backlinks, get some of the things, you know, the establishment of the of the credibility of your business so that you can then go work on those things on the backend.
But spending time on SEO is never wasted time. Never.
Cabri: Yeah,
Melissa: absolutely not.
Okay. So let's talk about what Organizer Near Me is. You are creating a listing on our site. . And we are going to be doing SEO work on the back end to make sure that when someone who needs Services is looking for an organizer in Pensacola, Florida, that we at Organizer Near Me are something that's popping up and that they can click on very easily and go find an organizer.
There are lead generation services out there. We want to talk a little bit about what similarities we have with other lead generation services and what things are [00:13:00] totally different.
Cabri: Okay. So the main lead generation system website that exists specifically for organizers has always been find my organizer. It's been around, I don't know, probably years. It was around when I first got started. The main thing I think that is totally different when it comes to organizing near me is find my organizer is designed, designed to be a paywall between your potential client and you as the organizer.
So if you have a listing on find my organizer and. Judy Sue goes on the interwebs and searches for an organizer in your area and your organizer listing pops up, you're going to have to pay to get her information. You're going to have to pay to get the needed tools
Melissa: that you're going to have to have to reach out to her.
And the amount that you pay depends on what geography you're in. Depends on a lot of factors. So you might pay Find My Organizer 200 per six months for that lead, or you might be paying them 500 per six months, or you might be [00:14:00] paying them 50. It's all over the board.
Cabri: Which is another, I would say con for Find My Organizer.
If you're already in a geographical area that has a high concentration of organizers, you're competing not just with the people, but now you're having to pay to compete as well. And so that's always been a struggle. The other thing, I don't want this just to be a complete, like find my organizer bash session, but, for my experience as an organizer and having my own company with find my organizer, sometimes you get like bogus leads or maybe just, it's like you pay to get the client's information and you reach out to them and then you call, you know, this potential client and they're like, Oh, I was just looking, I'm not really that interested.
It has a couple different flaws. The main benefit to Organizer Near Me and what that looks like is, we just want to be the bridge between you and your potential clients. There's no paywall. As far as like, you have to pay us to get a lead. No, you do get added benefits. If you opt in for a premium [00:15:00] membership.
within Organizer Near Me. But our goal is still the same. Whether you're on a paid membership, a free membership, we want to get in front of your clients and be able to say, here, here's your client. Here's your organizer. Y'all are a perfect match made in heaven. Go make some money. Very simple, very easy.
It's designed to help strengthen that muscle and build the compound interest so that you can keep organizing, keep finding new clients, keep getting new leads. And I know Melissa touched on the listing part of it, but there's other options. You can post your own blog. If you have an SEO optimized blog that has worked well for you, you can post it to Organizer Near Me and gain exposure in a new.
A new arena in the interweb world.
Melissa: Yeah. So you get the listing, but you also get a few things. So you're going to get another push to your SEO. You're going to get a backlink from a credibility, you know, from a trusted, authorized, credible site. A lot of things that focus on your SEO. So the biggest difference is we are not trying to [00:16:00] be a specific lead generation tool.
This is not going to be like a, we have a Betty Sue. Two miles from you. It's like Cabri said, it's designed to be a bridge for your own SEO efforts and to connect that organizer or the client that needs organizing with you directly.
We do not want to gatekeep that lead from you for any reason. Because another thing we see with the lead generation services is the client has already had to enter their information.
Information in the lead generation service, then it has to be delivered to you. Then there's a delay and you calling them, then they've already jumped through a lot of hoops. We want to create that direct link where they go directly to your site, directly to your own booking page. You don't have to just take whatever we spit out at you.
So that's the biggest difference is that we don't want to create any sort of gate between you and the potential client. They come directly to you.
Cabri: And I would even encourage organizers listening to the podcast to go on Organizer Near Me and play around with it. You'll see if [00:17:00] you land on another organizer's listing all of the links, social links, website, email, all that.
It doesn't go to us. It doesn't, there's no. There's no wiggle room in there for us to step in and be like, huh, just kidding. You got to pay us the money. No, we literally have it designed to where it's going to deliver that client directly into your inbox so that you can then reach out, begin your process do a consult or a proposal or sales, whatever your process looks like.
Another thing that has already come up in conversation around Organizer Near Me and this relaunch is going to be additional benefits. And so you have your listing, you have the option to post blogs. We're also going to be using social media to do organizer spotlights.
Yep. I'm going to try and talk Melissa into maybe even letting some people do some like organizing your me spotlights on the podcast. Don't know. We're going to see about that. Oh, interesting. When are you going to ask
Melissa: about that?
Cabri: You know, it's on my list of a million, like Melissa things to [00:18:00] discuss. I love that idea.
I'm here for it. I know I was thinking about that last night and I was like, man. That has
Melissa: some potential because guess what else guess what being on this podcast does for you. It increases your SEO and it gives you a backlink and it gives you a backlink. And guess how it does that. So the way that it does that is because.
Every time I do a podcast, there is a transcript from it. And then that easy for me to say, there's a transcript from it. And in that transcript, you have your business name and your business information, and that goes on YouTube. And then, which is the second largest search engine in the world. And then it goes on our website as a blog post and as a podcast post, and it is up in the universe.
For it to be discovered by the wonderful Google bots. Yes, those are all things that are going to be a part of the program that we are launching. We have so many ideas. Ridiculous amount of ideas. It's insane. It's a troubling [00:19:00] amount of ideas.
Cabri: Who would you say would be the ideal organizer to join
Melissa: Organizer Near Me?
Obviously, I am biased and I would love for all organizers to join, but what I would tell you is, and first of all, let me just remind you again, there is a free listing.
There is absolutely no downside. To putting up a free listing and then seeing what we come up with and how we're helping you. But I would say that if you are someone who is on the struggle bus a little bit or on the hustle bus with you are just not getting enough leads that are coming in from your website, you are not getting enough traffic.
You're not getting enough organic people from your web traffic and you know that you need to do some SEO, but you are not sure where to start. Let us do some of that heavy lifting for you. Okay, even if you do have good results, even if you have done all of the SEO things and the backlinks and, optimize blogs, all of the things, if you are really, really [00:20:00] advanced, then there's Absolutely no downside to you signing up as well.
I would love for you to take advantage of what we have out there. If you are someone who really is struggling to figure out your website, to figure out SEO, that's where I would obviously recommend a premium listing because you get a lot of things with that premium listing. And we want to be able to encourage people who need that extra help.
To get the premium listing so that we can help you even more via the things that we're doing on the back end.
Cabri: Platform really is designed to be a helper when you're working on SEO, whether you are somebody who barely understands what SEO is, or maybe somebody just told you the term SEO.
And you're like, what am I supposed to be optimizing for search engine, the Googles and the bings and the Yahoo's of the world, like if you're level one. SEO and your concept of understanding, or if you're a level 10 and you are really good at optimizing your blogs and you're making sure that [00:21:00] your metadata is correctly tagged and all the other things that go into SEO on the backend, it doesn't matter if you're a level one or level 10, this platform is going to help.
put your content in front of the right people, connect you. We're going to be that bridge to connect you to your ideal clients and serve them up to you on a silver platter. And just make the overall concept and understanding of SEO more approachable, more bite sized, easier to understand, easier to tackle without the overwhelm and the chaos that comes with that techie language and all the things that.
Surround it.
Melissa: I would also just throw in a plug while we're here for if you are at that place where you are in total confusion and you do not know anything that's going on schedule a zoom to talk to me about Inspired Organizer because we teach every single bit of this in our course and I love talking about SEO.
I love fixing people's SEO. I love fixing people's websites. So we should talk about that too. But at the very basics, just get a listing up. Okay. Whether [00:22:00] it's free or whether you decide to do premium and we are going to help you out. We also have a little, we have a little gift for podcast listeners. If they decide that they want to sign up for that.
I'm glad I said it too, because because Cabri I have some news for you. We have a coupon code for the people that listen to the pro organizer studio podcast. Are you aware of it? You set it up.
Cabri: Sure, I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure I set up the code. I just kind of went blink. Back to the squirrels. Here we are.
Melissa: And can you guys think that we have our act together? Sometimes. We do not. We have our act together when it matters. for the record, but we, we sometimes need a little help. Okay.
Until March 31st, If you use the code PROSTUDIO, you will get 50 percent off. Of your [00:23:00] membership of your paid membership. Actually, you can use it for the free membership too.
It's half of zero.
Speaker 2: So
Melissa: whatever you want to use it for is totally fine. But if you do decide to upgrade to a premium membership, you can get 50 percent off and that is on either a monthly membership or an annual membership. If you want to save a little bit more money and we would love to have you use that coupon code.
Cabri: I went ahead and push it to the end of March because you said middle of March and I'm unfortunately playing catch up on. Podcast episodes from like November. So we gave you a little extra time just in case you didn't hear this until.
Melissa: Okay. So this podcast is in case you're listening to it in June. Now after, if you are listening to this podcast in June and you're like, but, but, but, but, but I want a coupon code, you can still use the PROSTUDIO coupon code.
We will just be lowering it from 50 percent off to 15 percent off, which are words that are close. But not the same.
Cabri: Probably should have changed that. That's alright. But I still [00:24:00] wanted to be able to offer something to podcast listeners. Correct. But my personal recommendation would be to. Definitely use the 50 percent off before the month.
For sure.
Melissa: And you can go find out what you get with a premium listing if you go to OrganizerNearMe.com/advertise. And we will list that, we'll link this in the show notes. This is my plug for show notes, by the way, this is a random rant. I'm going to go on underneath this podcast on whatever platform you're listening to.
There are a bunch of notes that come up and there are links in there. They're hyperlinks. You can just get straight to the thing. Use those show notes. It's something that I know a lot of people don't ever look at, and there's often really good stuff in there. So we really want you to join Organizer Near Me. We would love to have you in our little family and make that a big family really soon.
Cabri: It is already growing. It is. I know selfless, selfless plug of just like increased growth already increased traffic.
It's been exciting to see just the beginning stages of the [00:25:00] relaunch and what that. What that turns into what that equates to.
Melissa: We did give a little sneak peek, an early sneak peek to our inspired organizer family yesterday. So they were kind of the first ones to know, but now today we're bringing it out to everyone and we are just excited to watch.
New people come in and those clicks go up and all the things, so all the things, all the things. I want to take just a super brief detour because Cabri has not only purchased Organizer Near Me, you just purchased another business too. Do you want to talk about it? Just like really, I want to have you back to talk about it on a broader basis, but I just want to have you chat about it for a second.
Cabri: Yeah, no, we definitely need to do something on buying or selling businesses. I was honestly, and this sounds bad. I was honestly thinking more conversational on the selling businesses, only because I know that even in the inspired organizer group, we have had people pivot transition completely, just close up [00:26:00] shop and move on.
But my plug on that, if you own a business and you spend time building said business. You don't just have to shut your doors. You can sell it and you can make money on it. And that's like a whole thing that we don't talk about enough, but we need to for sure.
Melissa: Yeah. Kind of the same concept. I'm just going to interrupt you just really quickly. I'm just going to say I will not say her name. She's going to know when she listens that I, and I have told her this many times I have told her, I go, you do not understand you got the steel of the century. There is an organizer I know who a woman in her area was shutting down her business and she offered to sell it to this organizer, sold her entire business that she had operated for many, many years for 5, 000.
And I said to the organizer, who is my friend, I go, girl, I'm glad you got that deal. But I, if I would have been coaching her, I would have told her you're insane. You have to sell your business for more than 5, 000. So I'm glad you got a deal. But [00:27:00] that is the steal of the century. So I want people to sell their businesses for more than 5, 000.
Cabri: I just think there's no knowledge. Like, I mean, we all grow our business and build our business, but what happens if you, I don't know, life changes or physically you can't organize because it can be physically demanding or you change, you know, locations and you don't want to run teams and multiple, like, there's just so many things that I think about that there's opportunity everywhere.
Absolutely. There is. So that was kind of like lucky for us. We ended up buying, it's called Remove LBK. They are rental moving boxes here in Lubbock, Texas. We had some sweet, sweet friends that I've known since the inception of Remove. They collaborated with us. It worked very seamlessly because of course, like moving boxes, organizer, very, very cohesive relationship there.
They just had other things going on, life, kids, marriage. Jobs, all the things and so it kind of randomly came up in conversation of just like, yeah, we were thinking about maybe, you know, offloading this one [00:28:00] business and I was like, what, tell me more. And so that's essentially how I came to buy pro organizer studio, a casual conversation.
And it just happens like it was the right place at the right time with the right people. We had kind of supported them through the beginning stages. They're now helping support us through this transition and new ownership. But it was just like a really, really nice cohesive relationship that paired well with me as an organizer and our team.
And so it was kind of, I mean, honestly, the same thing with organizing near me, I definitely have a theme when it comes to businesses. But I just have a, I don't know, I just want everybody to succeed and make a crap ton of money. I want you to have more than you know what to do with.
Melissa: Yeah, I, I think that we really probably should have led with that.
Maybe I'll throw it in there at the beginning, but like, I want organizers to make more money. That's what I want. I want organizers. To live comfortably have a good work life balance. Money isn't everything, but money makes a lot of good things happen. And [00:29:00] so I want people to have, and by the way, I'm not saying you have to try to hustle to make $200,000 a year as a solo organizer.
What I'm telling you is I want you to make the money that you need to be comfortable in the life that you want, and,
Cabri: but also we wanna help you make the money. The easiest and the fastest way possible, correct. And right now talking about SEO, that's it.
Melissa: I want people to have to hustle less and struggle less and have things be done for them in the easiest way possible.
Because at my core, I'm an exceedingly lazy person and I just want things to get done for me. So I had a boss who used to back when my,
Cabri: I lived in corporate world. He purposely, he purposely would take these big projects that had a lot of man hours and a lot of tasks and a lot of tediousness behind them.
And he would hand it to like unknowingly the laziest person in the office because the person can come up with a very simple [00:30:00] way to get it done the quickest way
Speaker 2: possible
Cabri: versus somebody who's an overthinker or an overanalyzer or perfectionist. And so it's fascinating how we are enemies.
Melissa: Yes. So stop overthinking.
Okay, but this, the movie box company, just in case people don't know what she's talking about is, if you're imagining a stack of sad, broken down cardboard boxes, that is not what Cabri is talking about. She is talking about very nice, reusable, plastic totes that stack on pallets. in the most beautiful way possible.
And it's a truly sustainable, easy late. It's good for lazy people. These moving boxes are just such a cool concept. And I'm just, I can't wait to see what you do with that business. We're super excited.
Cabri: I, I am beyond excited. I'm like overwhelmed with the ideas of all the things to do with the boxes. I think it's cool.
