How to Write a Blog for SEO - Blogging SEO Tips for Professional Organizers
If you’re under the impression that blogging is just for “bloggers,” then you’ve got it all wrong. It’s actually one of the greatest FREE marketing tools you have as a business. It’s your chance to provide value to your audience, drive more traffic to your website, plus increase your sales.
But if you’re just blogging to blog, you may not be getting the most value out of your posts in regard to SEO.
Writing a blog post with SEO in mind takes some skill and a little know-how. You have to keep your readers interested, provide useful, relevant information, and make sure that the structure is readable and appealing. You also have to make sure that it makes sense to Google and that the search engine can easily determine exactly what your blog post is about.
But don’t worry—it’s not as hard as it sounds!
When your readers understand and glean value from your article, they are far more likely to share it, link to it, talk about it, etc.—and all these actions will increase your trust, authority, and search engine rankings. If you want to increase your SEO while providing awesome content, follow our tips below on how to write a killer blog for SEO.
Start With Keyword Research
Every piece of content you create should have a goal, and that goal, aside from informing your readers, should be to focus on a specific keyword (a certain phrase that people are typing into Google when they search) or topic. By targeting a specific keyword, you can increase your chances of being found in search engine results which equates to more website traffic, leads, and sales.
So, before you begin writing, make sure you figure out what keywords your target audience is actually searching for. Once you identify those keywords, use them to choose the topics that you’ll write about and the words that you’ll use strategically (and naturally) within your text.
There are so many ways to identify keywords; we recommend Ubersuggest because it’s completely free and offers a variety of metrics and information that can be very useful for pinpointing which keywords to target.
Doing keyword research is vital for on-page optimization. There’s a good chance that you’re already incorporating keywords into your content by simply providing valuable content on the topic you’re writing about. For example, if you’re a professional organizer, you may write a blog post about your top tips for organizing your kitchen. While discussing this topic, you’ll undoubtedly hit on some keywords.
However, it’s still important to do your research because tools like Ubersuggest will tell you related keywords that you’ll also want to target as well. You can even check out what your competition is doing and take cues from there, too.
Once you have your keywords, follow these tips to write compelling, SEO focused blog posts.
1. Plan Your Structure
Before you begin writing, it’s wise to create a clear structure. Start with the following:
• An introduction that gives the reader a hint of what’s to come.
• Several headings that include your focus keywords and some variations.
It’s important to use headings to break up your content for readability. Headings are used to structure your whole page, so make sure you use them. Aside from readability, they help with SEO, too. Your headings will help Google grasp the focus of your topic and therefore will boost its rankings.
• A conclusion that wraps up the main points of your post and includes a call to action that asks the reader to engage further with your brand.
2. Use Keywords Smartly Throughout Your Post
Now that you have your keywords identified and you have a structure for your post, you can go ahead and start thinking about where to place your keywords where they’ll have the most impact for humans and Google alike. We suggest sprinkling them into the following places:
• Title
• Headings and subheadings
• Your introductory sentence or paragraph
• Title tags (this input field can be found in the page settings area)
• Meta descriptions (this input field can be found in the page settings area)
Pro tip: Don’t keyword stuff! Avoid filling your content with so many keywords that it sounds spammy and is difficult to read. The key is to weave your keywords into your content and use them sparingly. A couple of well-placed keywords will do the trick.
3. Optimize Your Images
A good blog post includes images but be sure to optimize them to get the most out of your SEO efforts.
When you upload a photo to your post, include keywords in your file name and fill out the alt text field with a brief, keyword-focused description of your photo. Take it a step further and use a free image compression tool to reduce the size of your png. or jpeg. so that your blog loads quickly.
4. Use Links
If you mention another blog or article in your post, include a link to the information you’re referencing. Not only is this the right thing to do, but you may also receive a link back. The more high-quality links you have, the better your SEO.
Additionally, use internal linking to keep your readers on your site and engaging with more of your content, which will also help increase your SEO. Internal links can include links to your other blog posts, links to your homepage, and links to other pages within your own website.
5. Add A Call To Action
Don’t just end your blog post without inviting your readers to engage further with your brand. You can ask them to subscribe to your blog so they get first access to your latest posts, or you can include call to actions to either check out another post of yours, sign up for a free class, or even buy your services. The key is to keep the reader engaged and give them plenty of opportunities to explore your brand and your services further.
Final Thoughts
The days of easily ranking your blog posts with just sticking in keywords everywhere are long gone. Google prioritizes high-quality, relevant content that promotes a positive user experience.
If you follow our tips and tricks, you’ll be able to get your blog posts to rank well in Google and subsequently increase traffic to your site, giving you more leads and clients.
