Top SEO Tips For Professional Organizers

Regardless of how long you’ve been a professional organizer, if you have a website for your business (you most definitely should!) you’ve probably heard of SEO or search engine optimization by now.

So, what is it exactly? And do you really need to be concerned with it?

Spoiler alert: Yes, you do! We’re going to run down what SEO is, why it’s important, and our top SEO tips for professional organizers that you can begin implementing today.

What is SEO?

This is a rather loaded question, but to put it in the simplest terms possible, SEO is helping to get your website to show up in front of the right people in search engines.

Think about it this way, when you want to search for something in Google, you type it in, and a page is presented to you with the top options that match your query. The businesses or website pages that are the most relevant and best optimized for your query will appear before you. And if you’re part of the statistical 75% of people who never scroll past the first page of the search engine results page (SERP), you’ll click on one of those first page options.

Now, think about it in relation to your professional organizing business. There are people every day who are searching for your exact services. If your website is not optimized for your specific keywords and phrases and you’re not showing up on the first page of Google, those potential customers are giving their business to your competition. Ouch, right?

The good news is that with some SEO know-how and a little patience, you can improve your search engine rankings and be sitting pretty at the top of Google with a steady stream of ready-to-buy customers coming to you on autopilot. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Set Up Your Google My Business Account

If you haven’t set up your FREE Google My Business Account (GMB) yet, you’re going to want to get on that ASAP. Your GMB listing will help you gain traffic and traction in your local area. This will help you rank for search phrases like “professional organizer near me” and “professional organizer in Atlanta.” This is how you get your business to show up in the “Maps” section of a Google search results page.

Be sure to fill out your GMB listing completely and triple check for accuracy. You’ll also have the option to put in some images, add in a video, and even write posts—and Google loves these posts, so take advantage! You can write mini blog posts with tips and tricks for your targeted audience and include a link back to your website, which improves SEO and helps those potential clients find your website fast. The more you add and optimize in your GMB, the higher it’ll rank in the maps and the more traffic you’ll get!

2. Identify Your Target Keywords

Our second SEO tip for professional organizers is to identify your target keywords. Keywords are the words or phrases that people are searching for on Google—and there are more than you’d think! There are dozens of variations that you can find and use to your advantage.

Some keywords are going to be easier to rank for than others. The best way to tackle your keywords is to use a keyword research tool such as Ubersuggest. It’s a free tool that allows you to take a look at what people are searching for, how often, and how difficult that keyword will be to rank for.

A keyword like “professional organizer” may be difficult to rank for. However, this doesn’t mean you should avoid it. Just keep in mind that it’s likely going to take some time. For quicker results, go for long-tail keywords, or longer, more specific search queries. So instead of just “professional organizer” maybe you try “professional organizer in Austin TX” or “professional organizer for busy professionals.” These phrases will likely be less difficult to rank for and can provide you with some quick wins and increased traffic in the short-term.

When you use a tool like Ubersuggest, it’ll give you keyword ideas or other variations of the keyword you inputted to give you an idea of what else people are searching for and what keywords and phrases you should be targeting. You should be utilizing these keywords in your SEO page settings, on your website builder, and in your website copy!

3. Write Compelling, Keyword Focused Content

As they say, content is king. You must have relevant, compelling, and quality content on your website to improve your SEO. Back in the day, you could have poor quality, keyword-stuffed content (too much keyword usage) and your site pages would rank for these keywords. Today, Google is much smarter and values the user experience above all else.

This means that you need to strike the perfect balance between writing content that’s helpful, easy to read, and makes sense with optimizing for your targeted keywords that you found on Ubersuggest —but don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it sounds. Our tip is to choose a keyword that you want to rank for and focus solely on that keyword for each page of your site or each blog post that you write.

For example, if you want to focus on “professional organizer” on your homepage, you could create content specifically for that keyword there. Then, you would have additional pages that focus on other keywords like “professional home organizer,” “Professional office organizer,” etc.

Should you stumble upon keywords that are receiving a lot of search volume, but don’t necessarily fit well on one of your website pages, such as “bathroom organization” or “how to organize a refrigerator”, don’t think that you can’t use those keywords. This is where a blog comes into play! You can dedicate an entire blog post about “bathroom organization” and rank high on search engines for that phrase without trying to find a place for it on your main website.

The biggest takeaway from your content creation is to make sure that it caters to your audience first and foremost. Google rewards sites with great content that is compelling, helpful, and easy to read.

4. Update Your Website With Title Tags

This next tip goes along with our last one regarding content. You want to make sure that your title tags are updated on your website to reflect the keywords that you’re targeting. This step is pretty simple and straightforward but can be invaluable when it comes to your SEO. Title tags are the blue links you see when you search for something in Google. You update these on your website in the page settings within your website builder.

All you need to do is go into each page on your website and give it a title that includes your keyword. Again, make sure that each title tag is different for each page—avoid using the same keyword over and over again. So, take the keywords that you researched and identified, and assign them to the title tags on your pages. This will tell Google what your page is about.

5. Start Looking for Natural Link-Building Opportunities

Our last tip for increasing your SEO is to begin looking for link-building opportunities. Links from other websites that point back to your website play an important role in your site’s SEO, but it’s important that you use SEO best practices to create natural, relevant links.

There are plenty of ways to gain relevant links to your website. Some are easier than others. You can start by creating social profiles that link back to your website, comment on relevant blogs, and sign up for local listings. This is a great way to provide value while also building relevance and trust for your site.

5. Get Started With SEO Today!

SEO doesn’t need to be as scary and confusing as you think. A solid foundation with targeted keywords and quality content will take you a long way and will be something that Google will always value. So, go ahead and start implementing these SEO tips today and you’ll be on your way to more Google traffic, leads, and sales for your professional organizing business.
